FAIRMONT — Great prizes that include $2,750 in scholarship money await the winners of the Fairmont Farmers Festival Scholarship Pageant, which is looking for contestants.
The pageant, which will be held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 12 in the E.R. Gause Auditorium at Rosenwald Elementary School, has five divisions — Wee, Little, Tiny, Junior, Senior and Miss. Participants must live within a 12-mile radius of Fairmont and be between the ages of 2 and 19 years old.
“The girls will have a chance to get together, communicate and make new friends,” said Angie Lovin, director of the scholarship pageant.
The winner of the Miss Division will win a $2,000 scholarship for the college of her choice, the first runner-up will win a $500 scholarship and the second runner-up will win a $250 scholarship. The winners of the other four divisions will win prizes that will help them with school, such as an iPad or a kindle ebook.
“We’re trying to give back to the children of the town to help them out,” Lovin said.
Applications can found at the town’s website at www.fairmontnc.com. The application deadline is Sept. 27. The registration fee is $65.
The pageant is a part of the Fairmont Farmers Festival, which will take place the weekend of Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
