PEMBROKE - Mike Miller has been named store manager of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Pembroke.
Miller will oversee a workforce of about 325 people at the 158,000-square-foot super-store on N.C. 711. The Pembroke Wal-Mart, which includes a vision center, photo processing lab, bakery, pharmacy, hair salon, and a Subway restaurant, opened on Oct. 26.
&#8220Wal-Mart has given me a tremendous career opportunity by bringing me to this store,” said Miller, who has 27 years of retail experience. &#8220We are going to do our best as a team to exceed our customers' expectations and earn their business every day. Our associates at this store are outstanding.”
Miller began his Wal-Mart career in 1996, working as the assistant manager at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Aberdeen. He later held the same position at stores in Smithfield and the Skibo Road store in Fayetteville.
While working in Smithfield, he also traveled to several other locations to help open new stores. After transferring to the Skibo Road Supercenter, he was selected for the company's management training program. He was promoted to co-manager at the Raeford Road store in Fayetteville.
In 2004, he was promoted to store manager in Spring Lake, his most recent assignment before being named manager of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Pembroke. Miller also has 19 years of retail experience in the grocery industry.
&#8220It takes a lot of talent and hard work to run a store and serve our customers,” said Wal-Mart District Manager Jack Blackmon. &#8220Mike has demonstrated his capabilities to do just that at many of our other locations. We're pleased to have him bring that experience to Pembroke.”
Miller said he plans to join the Pembroke Chamber of Commerce and pursue other civic activities.
He has three daughters, Ashley, 16, Taylor 7, and Kim McInnis, 24, who lives in Red Springs. His wife, Dianne, is a Wal-Mart associate in Hope Mills.
