Eighth-grader gets published
LUMBERTON - Alicia Jones, an eighth-grader at Littlefield Middle, is now a published author.
Her poem titled “Still Dreaming” was selected for publication for the National Beta Journal. Jones, the daughter of Chris and Paula Jones of Lumberton, was among 12 students nationwide whose poems were published. Jones was the only students from North Carolina.
Jones is a member of the Academically, Intelligent and Gifted program at her school. She was given and plaque and a trophy and honored at the Robeson County board meeting on Monday.
Knuckles names Terrific Kids
LUMBERTON - W.H. Knuckles Elementary recently recongized its Terrific Kids.
They were kindergarteners Hazaiah Pittman, Shantez Paterson and Brendan Oxendine; first-graders Roderrick Mack, Tavis Jenkins and Nakyrah Floyd; second-graders Asia Bundy, Timothy Brock and Destinae Fairley; third-graders Denontra Powel, Kevin James and Summer Killens; and fourth-graders Zavier Vann, Deijah Barnes and Danielle Fairley.
Rowland Middle names top students
ROWLAND - Rowland Middle announced its students of the week during the month of October.
Chosen were students in:
– Grade 6 - Sharina Locklear, Carrie Mitchell, Elexis Smith, Victor Sealey, Eric Bethea Nequan McInnis, Amanda Locklear, Amber Locklear, Kasey Edwards, David Mitchell and Sharina Locklear.
– Grade 7 - Quaskik Bullard, Arien Hunt, Jordan Campbell, Kristin Lowery, Lesha Blue, Latitia Page, Shirley Locklear, Karmin Ward, Margaret Strickland, Porcha Lockley and Essence Thompson.
– Grade 8 - Ciera Robinson, Austin Williams, Erica King, Leander Vanderhall, Mallory Locklear, Paul Jimenezams, Shenque Ocean, Josh Jackson, Nicodemus Hunt and Brandon Owens.
The selected students were given a pizza jamboree for having good behavior and academic excellence.
Magnolia sets open house
LUMBERTON - Magnolia Elementary School will have a PTA/open house from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Trojan Singers will perform.
Green Grove festival is Friday
FAIRMONT - Green Grove Elementary has scheduled its Harvest Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
LHS schedules College Day
LUMBERTON - College Day for juniors and seniors at Lumberton High School will be held Tuesday.
Seniors can attend from 8:05 to 8:45 a.m. Juniors can attend from 8:50 to 9:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to meet with college admission officers and military personnel to discuss admission requirements, scholarships and financial aid.
Swett schedules College Day
PEMBROKE - Purnell Swett High School has scheduled College Day in the gym on Wednesday.
Seniors will have the opportunity to visit college representatives from 8:15 to 9 a.m. Juniors will be able to attend from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Students will be able to pick up applications and ask questions about the various colleges and universities.

College Day at FHS is Wednesday
FAIRMONT - Fairmont High School has scheduled College Day for Wednesday.
Seniors and their parents are invited to attend from 1:30 to 2 p.m., and juniors and their parents from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
Representatives from universities, community and technical college and the military will be on hand to answer questions about admission, financial aid and scholarships.
PTO meets Nov. 7 at Southside
ROWLAND - Southside-Ashpole Elementary has scheduled a PTO meeting and Open House for 7 p.m. Nov. 7.
The advisory council will meet in the guidance conference room at 6 p.m.
A performance by third-grade students will highlight the evening. For information, call Principal Robert Locklear at 422-3791.
Festival Friday at Southside
ROWLAND - Southside-Ashpole Elementary School has scheduled its annual Harvest Festival at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Retired Personnel conference Nov. 9
LUMBERTON - The District 10 N.C. Retired School Personnel Annual Fall Conference will be Nov. 9 at 11:15 a.m. at Pine Crest Country Club.
