Flora Macdonald College Alumna
to Receive Award at 2008 Ball
The Flora Macdonald Legacy Foundation announced this past week that Flora Macdonald College alumna Gladys McCain Kerr ’56 would be one of two recipients of the Flora Macdonald Legacy Award to be presented at the foundation’s ball in October of 2008. Originally from Waxhaw NC, Kerr currently is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Wingate University and helped establish the Waxhaw History Museum, the Waxhaw Highland Games and the Waxhaw Outdoor Drama “Listen and Remember.”
She also served on the Waxhaw Centennial committee that promoted the revitalization of downtown Waxhaw. In 2006 she served as president of the 50th Reunion for the Flora Macdonald College Class of 1956 and attended the inaugural Flora Macdonald Ball.
As classmate Mary Archie Brown McNeill (FMC ’56) says “Gladys McCain Kerr is the epitome of a genuine Flora Macdonald College Alumna in character, ideals, leadership, actions, and commitment to the legacy of Flora Macdonald.”
The Flora Macdonald Legacy Foundation, comprised of individuals from all three institutions of learning that have been housed on the Flora Macdonald Campus as well as from community leaders,  is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization with a mission to preserve the historical significance of the Flora Macdonald Campus and Cape Fear Region while also promoting arts in the area.  Those wishing to learn more about the Flora Macdonald Legacy Foundation, the Flora Macdonald Ball or other programs sponsored by the Foundation are invited to visit their website at
