Fall Fling is Friday, Saturday
LUMBERTON - The Carolina Smokin' Fall Fling Barbecue Festival will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Southeastern Regional Agriculture Center/Farmers Market.
The cost to enter is $300. Teams must cook four meat entrees - chicken, pork butt or shoulder, pork rib and beef brisket.
The prizes include $5,000 for the grand champion, $3,000 for the reserve champion and $1,000 for the winner of each of the four meat categories.
Proceeds benefit the East Howellsville Saddle Club's Youth Scholarship and Youth Center Building funds.

Veterans parade set for Saturday
PEMBROKE - The annual Pembroke Veterans Day Parade will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Line up begins at 9 a.m. at Pembroke Elementary School. The parade will end at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Performing Arts Center.
The day includes a veterans ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Pembroke Town Park. From noon to 3 p.m. there is a fish and chicken plate sale at the VFW Building on Union Chapel Road.
Christmas parade entries sought
ST. PAULS - Entries are now being accepted for the 50th annual St. Pauls Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade that will be held downtown at 3 p.m. on Dec. 1.

The parade will have as its theme “Building A Future on Golden Days of Yore,” so it welcomes vintage farm implements, classic cars and trucks, motorcycles, horse-drawn wagons, floats, bands, marching units, and queens and kings.
Saddletree VFD plate sale is Friday
LUMBERTON - The Saddletree Volunteer Fire Department will hold a plate sale on Friday to raise money for the department.
The barbecue and chicken plates can be bought beginning at 10 a.m. that day at the department. Plates are $5.50 and sandwiches are $3. BBQ will be sold for $5 a pound.

Veterans Day tribute Saturday
FAIRMONT - The town will hold a Veterans Day tribute on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Town Hall parking lot on South Main Street.
The featured speaker is the Rev. Gary Deese, retired Army command sergeant major. Army reservists from in Lumberton will conduct a flag ceremony.
Chamber seeks parade entries
LUMBERTON - Entries are still being sought for the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas parade.
The parade is scheduled for Nov. 17.
