Memorial Day set By Paul Terry

“Lest we forget..”
Richard Davis, Commander of VFW Post 12025 and American Legion Post 5, cordially invites the community to attend the Memorial Day Service set for 11 am on Monday, May 29th. The service will be held at the St. Pauls War Memorial on Broad Street. It will be held in honor of all of the fallen from this area. The wreath laying ceremony will be conducted by St. Pauls’ Co C, North Carolina National Guard, according to Mr. Davis.
This year’s guest speaker will be LTC (US Armt Retired) Robert Gable.
Following graduation from high school, LTC Gable enlisted in the US Army, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then entered the Officer Candidate School and graduated as a Second Lieutenant in 1978. His career included assignments in personnel, civil affairs and psychological operations. Those assignments ranged from company level to serving on the Headquarters, Department of the Army staff. LTC Gable retired from active service on Febraury 1st, 2001.
The Memorial Day Service will conclude with the traditional playing of Taps, in remembrance of all veterans who gave their lives in service to this country.
