Man jailed for assault on female
LUMBERTON - A Lumberton man was arrested Friday and charged with choking his teenage girlfriend, sheriff's Deputy David Schmale said.
Brian John Locklear, 25, of 5138 Singletary Church Road, charged with felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female. Schmale said Locklear assaulted his 16-year-old girlfriend at a residence on Josephine Drive on Jan. 12.
The teenager, a student at Lumberton High School, suffered cuts and bruises to her neck and face. She was treated and released at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Locklear was jailed on $5,000 bail.

Gunshot victim shot through door
RED SPRINGS - A Red Springs man was shot in the hand after someone knocked on the front of the door of his home Friday morning, a sheriff's report said.
Nolan Jones, 56, did not answer the door, but was injured when someone fired a shot through it, according the report. The incident happened about 6:40 a.m.
Jones was treated by emergency medical personnel but was not taken to the hospital, the report said.

Copper stolen from Alltel tower site
RED SPRINGS - An employee with Alltel cell phone company reported $3,300 worth of copper was stolen from a cell phone tower near Red Springs last week, a sheriff's report said.
Melanie Prescott, who works for Alltel out of Fayetteville, said copper ground bars and wiring were taken from the tower on Mt. Tabor Road.

Lumber Bridge man charged in robbery
LUMBER BRIDGE - A Lumber Bridge man was arrested Monday and charged with felony common law robbery, a sheriff's report said.
Ronnie Lee Jones, 36, of 1942 Lombardy Village Road, was jailed on $1,000 bail.
