Lumberton Border Belt makes history

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Border Belt 14-year-olds have bigger fish to fry.
After winning the North Carolina State Championship for the second year in a row, Lumberton is on its way to the Babe Ruth Southeast Regionals on Thursday, in Theodore, Ala.
By beating Greenville 14-3 on July 21 it marked the end of a remarkable run through the East North Carolina state playoffs. Taye McNeill had a three-run home run, and Justin Leggett went 3-for-3 to make Lumbertons conquest complete.
Led by coach Steve Britt, the playoff runstarted with District 1.
A loss to Chatham County, 6-5, was the first and only blemish on Border Belts playoff run. In game two, Lumberton beat Lumber River 4-3, thanks to Justin Leggett. He made a tremendous catch at short that saved two runs
