MAXTON - Five Scotland County residents have been arrested for plotting to steal a truckload of property from the Dollar General store in Maxton, police Detective Lt. Jamie Oxendine said.
Police charged two store employees and three of their friends with stealing $680 in clothing and toys. Oxendine said the theft occurred on Nov. 27 at the store on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Store clerks Sabrina McLaurin, 34, of Laurel Hill, and Sharnice Grasty, 16, of Laurinburg, were each charged with larceny and placed in the Scotland County jail under a $5,000 bond.
Police also charged Rodriques Thomas, 24, of Laurinburg, Dwayne Harris, 24, of Gibson, and Bryant Graham, 22, of Laurel Hill, with misdemeanor larceny. Each was jailed under a $1,000 bond.
“They went in as three shoppers and came out with almost $700 worth of merchandise and these two ladies allowed them to do it,” Oxendine said.
A customer in the store suspected the theft and called 911, Oxendine said. Police arrested the men in the store's parking lot.
