Retired Sgt. First Class Zeb Oxendine, of West Columbia, formerly of Red Springs, N.C., died March 6, 2007.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, the Revs. Dr. Dale Levan and John D. O'Cain Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park with military honors.
Born in Red Springs, he was the son of the late Chesley and Mary Bell Oxendine. He was a retired sergeant first class of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star.
The family said: “We would like to extend our thanks to the ICU and staff at Lexington Medical Center.”
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ray Oxendine; and four sisters, Claire Bell Maynor, Elsie Mae Smith, Eula Mae Hunt and Lucy Ranson.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Oxendine of West Columbia; a daughter, Sharon Faye Oxendine of Asheville, N.C.; two sons, Alan Oxendine and his wife, Gay, of Anderson, and Glenn Oxendine and his family of Lexington; seven brothers, Chesley Jr. Oxendine of Arizona, Daniel James Oxendine of Fairmont, N.C., James D. Oxendine of Huntersville, N.C., Michael Oxendine of Pembroke, N.C., Arnold Ray Oxendine of Fairmont, Harold Oxendine of Lumberton, N.C., and Earl Oxendine of Fairmont; five sisters, Lela Bell Hunt of Summerfield, N.C., Betty Lois Chavis of Maxton, N.C., Rachel Murray of Trinity, N.C., Cherry Lee Smith of Greensboro, N.C., and Mary Francis Hockenberry of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Jessica Brown, Adam Oxendine, Corey Oxendine, Breann Oxendine and Brooke Oxendine; an adopted granddaughter, Haleigh McDaniel; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
