Elizabeth Harrell, 72, of 101 St. Pauls Apartments, St. Pauls, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, May 26, 2006, at Solid Rock United Holy Church in St. Pauls. The Rev. Lloyd Butler Jr. officiated. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery in St. Pauls.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Harrell of Durham, Jeffrey Maness of Capitol Heights, Md., and John Maness of Raleigh; a daughter, Linda Harrell of Capitol Heights; a stepson, Randy Harrell of Raleigh; a sister, Marie Hall of Capitol Heights; and 10 grandchildren.
Alonzo McNair, 95, of 428 King St., St. Pauls, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 27, 2006, in Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Jones presided. Burial followed in McKinnon Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Flossie McNair; five sons, Robert McNair, Albert Lee McNair, Allen Lee McNair, Alvester McNair, and Alonzo McNair; four daughters, Kay Francis McNeil, Linda McLean, Mary Alice Watson and Joyce Ann McKellar; three sisters, Ida Grange, Fannie McNair and Lena Mannie; 70 grandchildren; 170 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Mabel B. Sterling
Mrs. Mabel Baxley Sterling, 83, of Lumber Bridge, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, May 26, 2006, in Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel in Raeford. Burial followed in Raeford Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Davenport; three daughters, Elizabeth Ryan, Brenda Johnston and Susan; a stepson, Hunter; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Jennifer C. Melvin
Ms. Jennifer Clonese Melvin, 48, of 221 W. High Terrace, Rochester, N.Y., and formerly of Lumber Bridge, N.C., died Sunday, May 21, 2006.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 27, 2006, in Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lumber Bridge. Burial followed in Sandy Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumber Bridge.
She is survived by three sister, Gloria Jean Thompson of Lumber Bridge, Eva Williams of Raeford and Katrina Melvin of Rochester.
Ms. Carolyn Snow, 57, of 108 Plateau Road, Parkton, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 27, 2006, in Butler’s Funeral Home Chapel in St. Pauls. The Rev. Larry Anderson officiated. Burial followed in Sandy Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumber Bridge.
She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Bradley of Parkton and Jessica Snow of Hope Mills; two sisters, Evelyn Strong of Seat Pleasant, Md., and Lynda Snow of St. Pauls; a brother, Samuel Snow of Warner Robins, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
John Vincent Hines
John Vincent “Slim” Hines, 80, of 6327 Braxton Road, Hope Mills, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 27, 2006, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Lumber Bridge. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary “Gale” Turner of Durham; five sisters, Thelma Moore, Betty Green, Virginia Loretta Hill and Brenda Hill, all of Fayetteville; and Mildred Fuller of Hope Mills; and a brother, William “Bill” Moore of Red Springs.
Maeomie Oxendine Barnes
Maeomie Oxendine Barnes, 78, of Linkhaw Place, Lumberton, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, May 28, 2006, at The Rock Church of God. The Revs. Ronald Scott, Roosevelt Scott and Jeffrey Locklear officiated. Burial followed at Fairpoint Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Jearlean Patchett and Sara Hunt, both of Lumberton, Mary Helen Revels and Judith Ann Lowery, both of Baltimore; a son, Carlie Junior Locklear of Charlotte; five sisters, Beatrice Locklear, Delessie Oxendine and Mary Elizabeth Holmes, all of Lumberton, Virginia Lewis of St. Pauls and Annie Pearl Oxendine of Raynham; four brothers, Ulyesses Oxendine of Lumberton, Preston Locklear of Raleigh, Calvin Oxendine of Bladenboro and Curtis Oxendine of Pembroke; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Lynda Britt Walters
Mrs. Lynda Britt Walters, 53, of 203 Hummingbird Lane, St. Pauls, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, May 29, 2006, in First Pentecostal Holiness Church in St. Pauls. The Rev. Raymond Faircloth Sr. officiated. Burial followed on Tuesday, May 30, at Britt Family Cemetery in St. Pauls.
Lynda was born in Robeson County, NC, and worked as a secretary for Burlington Mills for many years and was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in St. Pauls.
She is survived by her parents, Alfred and Perlene Britt of St. Pauls; her husband, Butch Walters of the home; a son, Tony Walters of Lumberton; a daughter, Melynda Walters Becker of St. Pauls; five sisters, Peggy Register, Judy Bentley, Susan Bass and Jeanne Britt, all of St. Pauls, and Kaye Olson of Lumberton; and four grandchildren, Jordan Becker, Alexandria Becker, Kaley Becker and Kendall Walters.
