Harvey Charles Allen, a resident of 2315 Tar Heel Road, Lumberton, died Sunday afternoon in the Duke University Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion's Tabernacle Baptist Church, the Revs. Walter Jones and Baxter Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
Allen was born in Robeson County on Aug. 21, 1926, a son of the late Harvey Lofton and Monnie Hickman Allen. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II. Allen was a member of Zion's Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he was active in the adult men's class. He also served as Sunday School director and deacon for some 40 plus years and served as trustee and on several committees of the church.
He was proceeded in death by a daughter, Charlene Allen, and a brother, Stacy Allen.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Baxley Allen of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Wanda and Bruce Walters and Pam and Richard Townsend, all of Lumberton; two sisters, Hazel Britt of Lumberton and Sara Lee Kinlaw of Harrelsville; four grandchildren, Rhonda Walters, Melanie Walters, Karen Monroe and Chuck Monroe and his wife, Sunshine; two great-granddaughters, Candice and Erin; and a niece, Dianne Wilkins.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
