LUMBERTON — Police are turning to the public for information that will help them solve the murder of a Fairmont man that occurred on Friday at about midnight in South Lumberton.
Detective Sgt. Howard Reaves said the victim, 34-year-old Cedric Buie, of Gaddy Road, Fairmont, was shot to death as he rode his bicycle near the V-Point convenience store. Reaves said that Buie had been visiting relatives in the area shortly before his death.
According to Reaves, a group of people at V-Point “heard two or three gunshots and they found him up the street. He was riding a bicycle and the bicycle was still between his legs.”
He said 911 was called and Buie’s body was found at California Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive. Reaves did not know how many times Buie was shot, but said an autopsy is planned.
V-Point has been the site of several shootings in recent years.
Reaves said that Buie was in the area during a recent shooting off Roberts Avenue in Lumberton, but said police don’t know if the two incidents are related. He asked that anyone with information call police at (910) 671-3845.
