SOUTHERN PINES -- Justin Baker was waiting for a night like this.
Baker poured in a game-high 37 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Lumberton boys downed Pinecrest 87-68 in a nonconference showdown Tuesday.
The Pirates (9-6) got their offense on track early, building a 52-37 advantage by the half. Lumberton also received a strong performance from Jonathan Lyons, who contributed 20 points.
David McCraken paced the Patriots with 17 points, including five treys.
Cougars routed by Riverside
LUMBERTON -- Flora Macdonald Academy struggled early and often in 90-59 defeat to Riverside Christian Academy.
The Cougars (3-10) managed just eight points in the first quarter, resulting in a 30-8 score by the end of the frame. By halftime, the Eagles (12-2) had built a 20-point lead.
Pacing Riverside was the duo of D.J. Revels and Damien Spivey, who scored 19 points apiece.
Joey Sayre led the way for FMA with 14 points.
Avalon picks up win
DILLON -- David Stephens scored a game-high 16 points as Avalon Academy dusted Marlboro Academy 68-54 in nonconference action.
The Falcons (5-5) also got 15 points from A.D. Lewis, who nailed two of the team's three 3-pointers.
Hubie Meggs led Marlboro with 14 points.
