A St. Pauls woman, who may have suffered a medical condition-induced seizure, died Saturday after a one-car crash.
Linda Britt Walters, 53, was travelling south on Hwy 301, alone, in her 1997 Oldsmobile about 10:15 am when she ran off the road to the left and struck a driveway culvert. The vehicle came to rest there, after what a Highway Patrol officer termed “a hard impact.”
“The vehicle was travelling about 55 mph when it left the road. It would have slowed very little before impact,” the trooper said.
Mrs. Walters was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags deployed, but she died shortly after the crash.
There was an eye-witnes to the crash who told family members that Mrs. Walters’ head was jerking or bobbing just before the accident.
“A pre-existing medical condition may have contributed to the crash,” the Highway Patrol officer said, “but we do not at this time have a cause of death. We may never know exactly what led to this crash, but our investigation is continuing.”
