Sarah Penny Britt Hartzler, 67, of Dawsonville, passed away on July 4, 2011, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro Beacon Place in Greensboro.
The family and friends will celebrate Penny’s life during a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Floyd Memory Gardens, 3720 Old Whiteville Road, Lumberton, N.C., 28359.
Penny was born on Aug. 5, 1943, in Lumberton.
After high school Penny studied to become a beautician and worked as a hair stylist until she retired in 2008.
Penny was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
She loved animals, raised horses, rabbits, cats, dogs, goats, a ferret, several baby squirrels, and fed many a raccoon along the way. She had a generous, giving spirit, and loved to laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay M. Hartzler; and parents, Evander C. Britt and Ollie Nobles Britt.
She is survived by her three children, Anjenette (Victor) Hartzler Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn., Colon Louis Hartzler of Dawsonville, and Sharon (Tim) Hartzler Britt of Pleasant Garden; grandchildren, Jason (Tracy) Britt, and Timothy Britt; a brother, Billy French Britt and sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Britt; a sister, Jean Britt Powers; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Ernestine Goodyear Doares, 93, of Lumberton, passed away July 3, 2011, at the Southeastern Hospice House.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
She was the owner of Twin State Parts Company.
Left to cherish her memories are sons, Mike Doares and Joe Doares; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Biggs Funeral Home in Lumberton.

Grady Stone Jr., 86, of Myrtle Beach, died July 2, 2011, at Brightwater Skilled Nursing Center of Myrtle Beach.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, N.C. The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocean View Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Melba Smith Stone; two daughters, Sandra Shealy of Mooresville, N.C. and Debby Bullock of Lumberton; a sister, Christine Britt of Lumberton; and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.
Kevin Neill Britt, 41, 308 Percival Road, formerly of St. Pauls, died July 2, 2011, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in St. Pauls, the Revs. Floyd Helms and Pat Hash officiating. Burial will follow in Tolarsville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are his father, Harold L. Britt Sr.; mother, Augusta Britt; and his brother Harold L. Britt Jr.

Irene Dell Watts Harris, 74, of Elizabethtown, died July 2, 2011.
A graveside service was this morning at Elizabethtown City Cemetery, the Rev. Joey Autry officiated.
Surviving are her sons, Tommy Harris of Dublin and Jamie Harris of Elizabethtown; brothers, Davis Watts of New York, Donald Watts and Junior Watts, both of St. Pauls, and Clarence Watts of Elizabethtown; a sister, Barbara Trogdan of Hope Mills; and three grandchildren.

Leonard “Lynrd Skynyrd” Ray Byers, 47, of 1359 Faith Road, died July 2, 2011, at Duke University Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Willie Scott and Steve Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens in Lumberton.
Surviving are a daughter, Krislynn Byers of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Leonard Byers of Clarksville; his mother, Alean Byers of the home; three sisters, Linda Oxendine of Pembroke, Mary Morgan of Maxton, and Rena Byers of Philadelphia; and a brother, Frankie Byers of Georgia.
The visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home.
Ralph E. Lewis, 73, of 43 Bradford St., died July 1, 2011, at Southeastern Hospice House.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sandy Grove Baptist Church, the Rev. T.S. Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabeth Heights Cemetery in Lumberton.
Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Lewis of Lumberton and Ralph Sutton of Raeford; two sisters, Shirley Buchaman of Maryland and Gwen Purdie of Greensboro; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Colvin Funeral Home in Lumberton.
