RALEIGH The Friends of Plant Conservation will hold its annual meeting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
Rare plants of the coastal plain and the ecology of the region will be the topics of discussion at the meeting and a choice of two afternoon walks will be offered. Melanie Doyle will lead an aquarium horticulture tour and Paul Hosier will lead a coastal dunes ecology tour.

RALEIGH County governments and non-profit groups pursuing farmland preservation projects can apply for funding assistance from the North Carolina Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler announced.
Applications, information and guidelines for the 2011 funding cycle are available online at www.ncadfp.org or by calling (919) 707-3071. The due date is 5 p.m. on Dec. 15.
