Teresa Brockington, a resident of Red Springs and a junior majoring in Psychology at North Carolina State University, recently traveled to Accra, Ghana (West Africa) during her spring break.
The trip was part of a study abroad program that took place from February 28 to March 11.
Ms. Brockington received scholarship funding from the NC State’s Study Abroad and Africana Studies programs to assist with the costs.
During her 11-day trip, she had the opportunity to tour the country, visiting historical sites, including the Elmina Slave Castle and the burial grounds of W.E. Du Bois. In addition, Brockington was present for Ghana’s 40th Anniversary Celebration of Independence. Before departing, the group was able to donate school supplies to a local school.
When asked about her overall experience, Brockington stated, “I was very fortunate and blesses to have been able to travel to Africa during my spring break. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and I hope to return in the future.”
Brockington continues to excel in her academic studies while attending NCSU. She received the distinctive honor of being on the Fall 2006 Dean’s List with a 3.5 semester grade point average.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton and Katie Brockington.
