Horace Wayne Parnell Sr., 76, of Parkton, died Jan. 13, 2005, at Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Parkton Baptist Church, the Revs. Robbie Byrd and Raymond Wade officiating. Burial will follow at the Parkton Cemetery.
Parnell was a former mayor of Parkton and a merchant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Wayne and Lucinda McMillan Parnell; four sisters, Eva Stutz, Irene Blue, Evelyn Turnage and Merle Koshoffer.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva Everette Parnell; a daughter, Amy Parnell Owens and her husband, Terry, both of San Antonio; a son, Horace Wayne Parnell Jr. of Clementon, N.J.; three brothers, Carl Parnell and his wife, Joan, and Mack Parnell and his wife, Grace, all of Raleigh, and Alf Parnell and his wife, Dottie, both of Parkton; a sister, Catherine Wilkes and her husband, Jack, both of Raleigh; two granddaughters, Leigh Anne Owens and Diana Marie Parnell; two grandsons, Horace Wayne Parnell III and Jonathan Martin Parnell; and a great-grandson, Gage Anthony Ratley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McNeill Funeral Home in St. Pauls.
