Olga T. Beckwith, 85, of Fayetteville, formerly of Shannon, died Oct. 26, 2006, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Prospect AME Zion Church, 15269 N.C. 71, Shannon, the Rev. Larry McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Beckwith was a faithful member of Prospect AME Zion Church for many years before becoming ill. She was also a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Haverhill, Mass., with the Rev. Dr. Gregory Thomas, and New Beach Grove Baptist Church in Newport News, Va., with the Rev. James Lawson. She belonged to many organizations in the churches that she joined.
The family said: &#8220Mrs. Beckwith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Beckwith; a daughter, China Beckwith Newton; a stepdaughter, Morzella Beckwith Smith; a son, John Wesley Beckwith; and a son-in-law, Sherman Johnny McRae.
Surviving are three daughters, Pamilia Beckwith McRae of Fayetteville, Josephine Beckwith Jackson and her husband, Kenneth, of Chester, Pa., and Theresa Beckwith Crowder and her husband, Thomas, of Greensboro; a son, Joseph Beckwith of Red Springs; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Boles Funeral Home in Red Springs. The viewing will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the church.
