LUMBERTON — Police are still not releasing the name of a man who was found dead in the Lumber River on Saturday, according to Lumberton police Capt. Johnny Barnes.
“We don’t suspect any foul play; however, it still is under investigation at this time …,” Barnes said. “Preliminary indications show the most likely cause of death is going to be drowning.”
It could take up to 30 days to get the autopsy results, he said.
Barnes said the man, who was homeless, was found under a railroad bridge near the West Second Street bridge on Saturday afternoon. A passerby walking along the railroad tracks saw him, he said.
Police have had difficulty locating the man’s relatives, and will not release his name until they have been contacted.
