ST. PAULS — Fire gutted a single-story home Saturday evening at 110 Odom St.
The family was not at home at the time, and no one was hurt, according to Tim Young, deputy fire chief for the St. Pauls Fire Department.
The brick and wood house is located behind a McDonald’s restaurant, and someone at the business noticed smoke and called it in.
The call came in before sundown, and firefighters had the blaze out fairly quickly. By 8 p.m. they were still checking for hot spots, Young said.
Big Marsh Fire Department assisted at the scene with firefighters and trucks. St. Pauls police officers were also on the scene.
Young couldn’t say how the fire began. “It’s still under investigation,” he said.
