LUMBERTON Dr. Obiefuna P. Okoye has joined the medical staff of Southeastern Regional Medical Center specializing in infectious diseases. His office, Carolina Infectious Diseases Consultants, is located within Lumberton Medical Clinic, located at 395 W. 27th St.
A native of Nigeria, Okoye earned his medical degree from University of Nigeria College of Medicine in Enugu, Nigeria, in 1996 and completed his residency at Huron Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2004. He also earned his masters degree in public health and tropical medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans in 2006.
Okoye is board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine. His areas of special interest include HIV/AIDS, MRSA infections, and inpatient/outpatient acquired infections.
Before joining Southeastern, Okoye practiced at Cape Fear Valley Infectious Disease Care in Fayetteville. He decided to join Southeastern because of a need for infectious disease coverage in the area.
Okoye and his wife live in Fayetteville with their two children.
