Fairmont
Hilda Vann Hodges, 89, of 900 Park Ave., died Sept. 29, 2004, at her home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fairmont, the Rev. Marc Werner officiating. Burial will follow at the Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont.
Hodges co-founded Ed F. Hodges Oil Co. with her husband, the late Edward Ferrell Hodges Sr. She was an active and dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of The National Society of Magna Charta Dames, The Colonial Dames XVII Century, The Plantagenet Society, The Colonial Order of the Crown and Americans of Royal Descent.
She was born on May 10, 1915, in Sampson County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Portia Vann. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sullivan, and a son-in-law, Clay Thrower.
Surviving are a son, Ed F. Hodges Jr., and his wife, Donna, both of Fairmont; two daughters, Patricia Thrower of Lumberton, and Cindy Herring and her husband, Jim, both of Dillon, S.C.; a sister, Parker Thorton of Clinton; 11 grandchildren, Joy T. Martin and her husband, Mike, Edward F. “Boo” Hodges III and his wife, Twig, Rose H. Simmons and her husband, Gary, Louise S. White and her husband, Michael, Jim Hodges and his wife, Julie, Warren Sullivan and his wife, Kim, Dawn T. Parker and her husband, Lane, Will Sullivan and his wife, Amanda, Vann Sullivan, Leigh Grier and Jason Grier; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Martin, Michelle Martin, Amber Goodman, Bishop Hodges, Lauren Sullivan, Hamilton Hodges, Matt Hodges and Caroline Sullivan; and her caregivers, Mildred, Shelia and Thelma.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Floyd Funeral Services in Fairmont and other times at her home, 900 Park Ave., Fairmont.
