Elsmer Ray Barnes, 82, of Lumberton, died July 13, 2004, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Corinth Baptist Church in Chadbourn, the Rev. Mason F. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.
Barnes owned and operated Barnes Paving Company in Lumberton and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Vasti Merritt Barnes; his parents, Bethel and Mina Bullard Barnes; and a son, Tommy Ray Barnes Sr.
Surviving are a daughter, Sue B. Wiseman and her husband, Ed, of Summerville, S.C.; a son, Richard D. “Ricky” Barnes and his wife, Kay, of Lumberton; a half-brother, Herman Stanley of Bladenboro; seven grandchildren, Tommy Barnes Jr., Christy Thorndyke, Brent Barnes, Stephanie Smith, Nicole Barnes, Trey Wiseman and Brian Wiseman; and five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Corbett, Laurin Thorndyke, Jordan Smith, Zachary Smith and Garrett Barnes.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.
