Hartman Dock Hammonds Jr., 64, of 2185 Popes Crossing Road,Lumberton, departed this life on Dec. 13, 2009, at Southeastern Regional Medical
Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rock Church of God, Bishop
Lesaundri Hunt, the Revs. Kenneth Locklear and Redell Hammonds
officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Hammonds was born in Robeson County,on May 16, 1945. He was a son of
the late Hartman Hammonds Sr. and the the Rev. Lounita Hammonds.
In addition to his parents, Hammonds was preceded in death by four
brothers, James Earl Hammonds, Ertle C. Hammonds, Howard L. Hammonds
and Bobby E. Hammonds; and a sister, Mildred Rogers. He was a member
of the Riverside Church of God where he served as teacher of the Adult
Mens Class for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ora Lee Hammonds of the home; a son, Jason
Hammonds of the home; two daughters, Felicia Hammonds of the home and
Denise Byrd and husband Jeff Byrd, both of Lumberton; three
grandchildren, Jeffery, John and Cory Byrd; two brothers, the Rev.
Redell Hammonds and James N. Hammonds, both of Lumberton; and two
sisters, Jessie Locklear and Barbara Graham, both of Lumberton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at The Rock Church
of God, 2209 W. Carthage Road, Lumberton.
