Thelma Graham Smith, 97, formerly of Pembroke, took her heavenly journey on Dec. 19, 2010.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Memorial Church, the Revs. William T. Morgan and Kelly K. Sanderson officiating. Burial will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
She was born Aug. 13, 1913, to the late Rufus and Mary Brayboy Graham. She was a devoted member of Riverside Memorial Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Smith was a loving dedicated wife, a devoted mother, a loving and caring grandmother, a loving exciting great-grandmother, a loving concerned mother-in-law, a loving appreciative sister, a loving and acceptable aunt, and a loving trusting friend to many. And most of all, loving humble child of God.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James K. Smith; an infant son, Bobby Frank Smith; a daughter, Thelma Jane Locklear; a son, James Rufus Smith; and her two brothers, Arnold and Worth Graham.
She is survived by four daughters, Joyce S. Locklear and husband Ambrose and JoAnn Locklear and husband Grover, all of Lumberton, Ruby N. Smith and husband James P., both of Pembroke, and Karen M. Shakerin of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter-in-law, Helen L. Smith of Pembroke. Smith also leaves to cherish her memories nine grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Wilma G. Chavis of Lumberton; and a host of nieces; nephews and friends.
The family expresses a special Thank You to the staff of GlenFlora for the loving care extended to their loved one.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Revels Funeral Home in Lumberton and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Smith.
