A Back-to-School Children’s Festival will be Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kingdom Place.

Children 5 to 12 years old, accompanied by their parents, are invited for fun and lunch. There will be bouncy toys, play equipment, a clown ministry, face painting, games and group activities.

A pizza lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. and there will be a drawing for a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart. Every child will receive a school box with school supplies to start the new year.

Children must be accompanied by their parents.

Dr. Michael Fields, senior pastor of Christian Faith Center of Lumberton, will have a book-signing on Aug. 31 for his newly released book, “FirstFruits: Revelation for Increase and Excellence.”

The Christian Book Store at 4333 Fayetteville Road, Lumberton, will host the event, and Dr. Fields will be at the store from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for a brief discussion and signing of the book. For information, call the Christian Book Store at 738-7193 or Christian Faith Center at 671-1889.

Dr. June Ballesteous will bring the message Aug. 17 at Calvary Way Baptist Church.

The church is at 307 South Jones Street, Pembroke.

A special service will be Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. at McCormick Chapel AME Church. Minister Debra Brown and the choir and congregation of New Horizon Church, Maxton, will lead the service.

McCormick Chapel is at 215 Main Street, Lumberton.

Beauty Spot United Methodist Church will present a workshop on the Senior Health Insurance Program on Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. The workshop is sponsored by the Older Adult Ministry, and will be conducted by the N.C. Department of Insurance.

Information on Medicare, Medicare supplements, prescription plans and long-term care insurance will be covered. A professional aide will be available for persons needing assistance. Help will be offered on how to recognize billing errors and how to prevent fraud and abuse.

Everyone is invited to this meeting which will be in the church’s fellowship building. The meeting will last no more than two hours. The church is at 273 Beauty Spot Church Road, in the Purvis/Elrod community of Rowland.

Evangelist Velma Crowder of Hope Mills will be the speaker Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church on Pine Log Road, Lumberton.

A Back-to-School Saturday Night Flight program will be Aug. 23 at First Baptist Church, North Main Street, Fairmont. The event begins at 5 p.m., and will feature “Positive Words” from the Village, the Faith in Motion Praise Dance team, school supplies and a light supper.

New Jerusalem Christian Center will have a car wash Aug. 23 at Auto Zone on West 5th Street, Lumberton. The car wash will start at 8 a.m.

Word of Life Ministries, Inc., St. Pauls, invites everyone for praise, worship, preaching and teaching each Sunday at 11 a.m. The pastor is Beatrice Beasley and the co-pastor is Edward Currie.

Prayer meeting is every Wednesday evening at 6 at Accept Christ Fellowship Church, Inc. The study topic for the upcoming series is “What is Salvation Anyway?”

MUSIC

New Beginning Church of Lumberton will have a Choir Day program Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited.

A gospel singing will be Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at New Beginning. The Heartsong Quartet will be part of the program.

The church is at 3485 Fayetteville Road.

Raynham Assembly of God will have a singing on Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. The program will feature Eric and Debbie Chavis.

Holy Swamp Baptist Church’s Senior Choir will celebrate its anniversary Aug23 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. Many groups and choirs are invited to participate.

The Friends of Jesus Quartet will be in concert Aug. 31 at Zion’s Tabernacle Baptist Church. The program begins at 6 p.m. The Zion’s Tabernacle Senior Choir and the Children’s Choir will also be featured. Refreshments will be served after the singing.

White Oak Christian Fellowship Center, Maxton, will host The Nortons in concert on Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.

The center is at 1596 McGirt Road. McGirt Road is across from the Campbell Soup plant.

PRAYER WALK

Long Branch Baptist Church will have a prayer walk Aug. 21 at Long Branch Elementary School. Everyone is invited to participate.

WOMENS DAY

Bethany Presbyterian Women will celebrate Women’s Day on Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. The Rev. La Joan Johnson, pastor of House of Prayer of Lumberton, will be the guest speaker. She will be accompanied by the House of Prayer Choir.

Everyone is invited.

YOUTH

Mt. Elim Baptist Church will host a Youth Rally on Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. Adrian Hammonds will be the speaker. Music will be by Teachers of Grace and The Oakton Praise Team.

REVIVALS

Everyone is invited to special meetings Aug. 17-29 at Pembroke Gospel Chapel. The Sunday meetings are at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and weeknight meetings begin at 7:30.

The meetings will be led by Tom Roberts. Everyone is invited to hear the truth regarding eternal destiny and to learn the facts about salvation.

Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will have revival services Aug. 20-22 at 7 p.m. The Rev. Judy McMillian, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, Fairmont, will be the guest speaker.

Greater New Bethel is at 172 Plain View Drive, Lumberton.

HOMECOMING

Greenville Missionary Baptist Church’s Homecoming is Aug. 17. The Rev. Dennis Mimms will be the speaker in the 11 a.m. service.

The members of Turner Station AME Church, Marietta, will celebrate their Homecoming and Senior Choir anniversary on Aug. 17.

Church school is at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11. Dinner will follow the worship service. A friends and family hour will be at 3 p.m., and the Senior Choir anniversary program will start at 6 p.m.

The church is at 3155 Olivet Church Road.

Pentecostal United Holy Church, Lumberton, will celebrate its 106th Homecoming on Aug. 17. The morning worship service begins at 11 and an afternoon service will be at 4. Elder Stephen Bradley and choir from Wilmington will be special guests.

Centenary Methodist Memorial Church, Rowland, will observe its 59th annual Homecoming on Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Jack Ward Page, Jr., who is serving the Friendship United Methodist Church in Burlington, will be the guest speaker.

Following the worship service, a picnic lunch will be served on the church grounds.

ANNIVERSARIES

Pastor Vermel Taylor, pastor of Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Lumberton, will be preaching at John Wesley United Methodist Church on Cumberland Street in Fayetteville, on Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. It is the Contemporary Adult Choir’s 28th anniversary.

Overseer Pastor Linda Moody will celebrate her fourteenth ministerial anniversary and the sixth anniversary of Accept Christ Fellowship Church, Inc., beginning Aug. 24 at 4 p.m., Aug. 26-28 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 31 at 4 p.m.
