LUMBERTON — Lumberton BorderBelt and Lumber RiverWest have their hands full in hopes of advancing toBabe Ruth regional play in Sarasota, Fla.
Both of Robeson County’s 15-year-old representatives lost Saturday in the second round of the EastNorth Carolina Tournament atFinley ReadField in Lumberton.
Border Belt dropped a 12-inning, 7-6 heartbreaker to Greenville while Lumber RiverWest lost to Edenton-Chowan 7-5 in Saturday’s opener.
Greenville’s Matt Keep scored on a base hit to right field with one out in the bottom of the 12th. Dakota Chavis was saddled with the loss for Border Belt despite giving up just one run over the final six innings. Both Lumber River West and Border Belt would have to win three more times to win the tournament.
Border Belt’s 14-year-olds victorious
LAURINBURG — Lumberton Border Belt’s 14-year-old team beat Lumber River, 8-2, in Laurinburg Saturday to stay alive in the EastNorth Carolina Babe Ruth Tournament.
Border Belt will play Pitt County today at 11 a.m. facing a must-win. If necessary, Border Belt will play again at 6 p.m.
