David Humphrey Sr., 77, of 230 Ed Messer Road, West Jefferson, formerly of Shannon, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Antioch Presbyterian Church in Red Springs. The Rev. Mike McGhee officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Humphrey was born in Robeson County on Nov. 29, 1928, to the late James and Janie Humphrey. He graduated from Red Springs High School in 1945. He was a retired farmer and a retired charter member of Shannon Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of Antioch Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder for many years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert McArthur Humphrey; and a brother, Donald H. Humphrey.
Surviving are his wife, Martha P. Humphrey of West Jefferson; three sons, David E. Humphrey Jr. of Shannon, James Richard Humphrey of Red Springs and William Joseph Humphrey of Apex; a stepson, the Rev. Jim Butler of Lumberton; a stepdaughter, Eva J. Dillard of Jefferson; a brother, James M. Humphrey of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
