LUMBERTON Dakota Hayes smacked a two-run single with the bases loaded to ignite a four-run third inning to send Lumberton to a 13-5 victory over Cape Fear in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday night.
Lumberton pitchers struck out 13 batters on the night, including nine by starter Daniel Skipper, who earned the victory.
Dakota Oxendine and Michael Musselwhite each had two hits on the night in the victory.
Lumberton returns to action at 7 p.m. today when it plays host to Pinecrest.
Dial,Oxendine lead Rams to victory at South View
HOPE MILLS Moira Dial had a two-run triple and Josey Oxendine added a run-scoring single to break a 2-all tie in the fourth inning as Purnell Swett downed South View 16-7 in a non-conference softball game Wednesday night.
Dial finished the night 4-of-5 at the plate with four runs batted in, while Oxendine added a two-run homer.
The Rams (11-4) recorded 22 hits in the game.
Purnell Swett returns to the diamond at 6 p.m. Friday at Scotland.
Early goal spurns Patriots to shutout vs. Lumberton
SOUTHERN PINES Kate Hieronymus scored 12 minutes into the game as Pinecrest blanked Lumberton 3-0 in a Southeastern Conference soccer clash.
Bailey Pages had a goal and two assists for the Patriots (9-2-2).
Lumberton (9-4, 4-2) only managed five shots on goal in the loss.
The Pirates return to action against SEC rival Hoke at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Nine-run inning propels Bulldogs to league win
ST. PAULS The St. Pauls softball team exploded for nine runs in the second inning and cruised to an 11-5 Three Rivers Conference victory over West Columbus Wednesday afternoon.
Andrea Bounds had two hits and drove in a run for the Bulldogs (6-7, 4-0).
St. Pauls returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fairmont.
