LUMBERTON — The second annual Celebrate Lumber River Day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Lumber River State Park.

There will be canoe and boat rides, display booths, exhibits, dancers, a tractor parade, dulcimer lessons, artists, horseshoes, wet T-shirt races for kids, fishing contests for kids, face-painting, prizes and giveaways. The Lumbee Ambassadors will be at the event as well.

LUMBERTON — A basic school age parenting program will be held on Tuesday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Family Violence Center, located at 108 W. Ninth St. in Lumberton. Registration ends on July 26.

The class aims to promote child and parent relationships and strengthen families. The 14-week class is for families with children ages 6 through 12. Transportation, a light meal and child care is provided weekly. Participants get a $25 gift card upon completion. Residents of the Lumberton Housing Authority receive 56 community service hours for successful completion of the program.
