Lizzie Jane Emanuel Porter, 88, of 1302 Jacobs St., died Wednesday at Duke University Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, the Revs. Jerry McNeill and Carlos Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow at Oxendine cemetery.
Porter was born on Nov. 20, 1914, in Claxton, Ga., to the late James Atlas and Hattie Jane Hunt Emanuel.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Adult Class. She was also a retired employee of Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Porter was preceded in death by two brothers, James Ray Emanuel and Carvie “Sam” Emanuel; a foster daughter, Carolyn Porter; and by a grandson, Keno Carroll Locklear.
Surviving are her husband Howard Porter, of he home; two sons, Chalmers Kerns and Tony Kerns, both of Lumberton, two adopted sons, Delton Ray Porter of Pembroke and Howard Lorenzo Porter of the home; a daughter, Marilyn Porter of Lumberton; a foster brother, Leon Chavis of Lumberton; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Biggs Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
