Leon Gilbert Singletary Jr., 73, of Killen, Ala., formerly of Rowland, died March 18, 2005, at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Maxton, the Revs. Larry Sawyer, Gene Miller and John Singletary officiating.
Singletary was a lifelong member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Pembroke State University and a retired general contractor and building construction teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, a mason and past Boy Scout leader.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.G. “Jack” Singletary; his mother, Aileen Singletary Abbott; and a sister, Carol Anne Singletary.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Patsy R. Singletary; a sister, Peggy Branch of Lake Placid, Fla.; a son, Leon G. Singletary III and his wife, Kim; three grandsons, Jack Logan, Benjamin Neal and Luke Thomas, all of Florence, Ala.; a son, Stephen A. Singletary of Sheffield, Ala.; and two nieces, Deborah Weeks and Barbara Wilson, both of Florida.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Shoals, 115 Fairground Road, Florence, Ala., 35630.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
