LUMBERTON -- There are shutouts, and then there's what the Lumberton soccer team did Wednesday night.
Not only did the Lumberton Pirates register a 3-0 victory at Alton G. Brooks Stadium, they did not allow Scotland to register a shot on goal in the nonconerence showdown.
The Pirates (10-0), ranked No. 10 in the latest North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association's 4-A state poll, held a 1-0 lead at the half thanks to a goal from Levi McNeall.
Edmundo Zamorano gave Lumberton the insurance it needed against the Fighting Scots (2-3) with two goals in the second half. His first score was assisted by Jon Flantos. Morris Cardenas assisted on the final goal.
Next up for the Pirates is a nonconference home match with South Brunswick on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Volleyball
At Fairmont, the Lady Tornadoes handled nonconference foe South Columbus with ease, posting a 25-22, 25-23, 25-12 win.
Gini Grimsley led the way for Fairmont (5-3) with 12 kills, eight service points and three blocks. Savannah Jones also chipped in 11 kills.
Next up for Fairmont is a Tri-Six match with South Robeson on Thursday.
Tennis
At St. Pauls, the Lady Bulldogs topped Clinton in a battle of Tri-Six Conference unbeatens.
St. Pauls reeled off five consecutive wins in singles' play to take command of the contest.
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is a nonconference match with Northwood on Friday at 3 p.m.
Golf
At Richmond, Lumberton managed a fourth-place finish at Richmond Pines Country Club.
The Lady Pirates finished with a score of 434, 100 strokes behind meet-winner Richmond. Scotland (378) and Pinecrest (388) placed two and three, respectively.
Kelci Walters shot a 94, which was the best individual finish for Lumberton.

Cross Country
At Lumberton, the Pirates and Lady Pirates dominated a Two Rivers Conference meet.
Sam Britt and Matt Thomas were the top runners of the day for the Pirates, who finished with a score of 40. Purnell Swett (47), E.E. Smith (66) and Pine Forest (74) rounded out the action.
Britt's run of 19:10 was good enough for fourth place, while Thomas (19:28) was right behind.
In girls action, the Lumberton was led by Megan Valenti, who placed second with a run of 22:58.
The Lady Pirates finished with an overall score of 25, followed by Pine Forest (46), E.E. Smith (77) and Purnell Swett (86).
