Volunteers needed for Terrific Tuesday event

LUMBERTON The Gibson Cancer Center needs licensed cosmetologists, manicurists and massage therapists to volunteer at the Terrific Tuesday event on the first Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are also needed to oversee arts and crafts activities during the event.
Terrific Tuesday is designed to help patients and their family members feel more at ease during their visits to the center by offering healthy refreshments, crafts, manicures, makeovers, hair cuts and chair massages.

Blood Drive at Southeastern set for Feb. 12

LUMBERTON Southeastern Regional Medical Center will hold an American Red Cross blood drive on Feb. 12 from 7 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 6 p.m. in the medical centers Assembly Room.
Persons who would like to donate blood must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 671-5149.

PrivilegesPlus hosts healthy heart fitness expo

LUMBERTON Southeastern Regional Medical Centers PrivilegesPlus, a group for people ages 55 and over, will host a healthy heart fitness expo on Feb. 12 from noon until 2 p.m. at the Southeastern Lifestyle Center Day Spa, located behind Southeastern Lifestyle Center for Fitness and Rehabilitation in Lumberton.

Memorial Service held to remember Hospice patients

LUMBERTON Southeastern Hospice will hold its 21st annual memorial service on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at Godwin Heights Baptist Church, 704 Godwin Ave., in Lumberton.
Family members and friends are invited to share in this memorial for Southeastern Hospice patients who died during the past year.
The service will be non-denominational and will feature speakers from throughout the county. Refreshments will also be served after the service. For more information, call 671-5655.

SRMC Foundation gala set for Feb. 27

LUMBERTON The Southeastern Regional Medical Center Foundation will host its 17th annual fundraiser gala beginning at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Pinecrest Country Club. The black-tie event will benefit the Southeastern Heart Center, which will use the funds to purchase telehealth equipment for pediatric cardiology patients.

Free health checks in Maxton

MAXTON Free health screenings will be offered on Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Bakers Chapel Baptist Church, 581 Old Baker Road in Maxton.
Southeastern Regional Medical Centers Community Health Services is sponsoring the screens which will check total cholesterol/HDL, blood pressure and blood sugar for adults 18 years or older. Height, weight and body mass index will also be measured at the screen.
Participants with diabetes will be offered additional HbA1c testing which shows average blood sugar rates over the last three months.
