LUMBERTON - A woman was shot to death and another was wounded when a gunman entered a mobile home Monday afternoon and began firing.
The gunman was still at large this morning.
Investigators are trying to identify the woman who died after she was struck by at least one bullet at the Roberts Avenue Mobile Home Park on Roberts Avenue.
Police say the woman didn't have any identification and didn't live in the Lot 18 mobile home.
The woman's body was found on a bedroom floor, police Detective Sgt. Howard Reaves said. “It looked like maybe she was shot in the head,” he said.
Witnesses say they saw another women covered in blood flee the home and run to a convenience store looking for help.
Police say that Leticia Santiago Ruiz, 29, of the Rosewood Mobile Park, off of N.C. 41, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Ruiz has been treated and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Reaves said no weapon has been found.
Police have not determined who was renting the home. Police have been hampered in the investigation because none of the people interviewed speak English. Both victims are Hispanic.
“We're looking at a couple of people,” Reaves said. “We got several people we need to talk to, but we don't know if they're suspects or not yet.”
Anyone with information can call Reaves at the Lumberton Police Department at 671-3845.
