James Claude Singletary, 87, of Lumberton, died Dec. 4, 2009, at
Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Floyd Memorial Chapel in
Lumberton, Dr. Bobby Carden officiating. Burial will follow in
Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1922. He was the son of the late James Clinton
Singletary and Delia Baxley Singletary. He served in the United States
Army and worked as a farmer.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella B. Sessoms and Helen Lyde.
Singletary is survived by a special niece and nephew, Rose and Gary
Davenport, and Earl Singletary; and six sisters, Estella Singletary of
Lumberton, Betty H. Edwards of Whiteville, Mae Wilkes of
Winston-Salem, Opal Bass of Hickory, Loraine Layton of High Point and
Norma Britt of Parkton.
The visitation will be an hour before the service at Floyd Mortuary &
Crematory Inc., 809 E. Fifth St., Lumberton.
