Fund soars past $3,400

Now that’s more like it.

The Empty Stocking Fund received more gifts yesterday that it had during the entire first week of collections, pushing the fund’s total to a symmetric $3,434. And even better, each of the 12 gifts will be matched with a $25 donation by an anonymous benefactor, adding what is now a hidden $300. All gifts of at least $15 will earn the match until the pledge of $6,000 is exhausted.

The largest gift, from attorney Marcus Williams, is for $500 and honors his late parents. Marcus has turned the gift into a Christmas tradition, honoring those who always made sure their children always had something to unwrap on that special day.

There is also a $250 gift from the Lumberton Rotary Club, and a couple of gifts from Sunday school classes. We encourage other civic groups and churches to follow with their own gifts.

Donations can be made in person at our office at 2175 N. Roberts Ave. or mailed to us at P.O Box 1028, Lumberton, N.C., 28359. Just make the check payable to The Empty Stocking Fund.

Each day The Robesonian will list the money donated and the contributors. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can do so by being listed as “A friend” or “Anonymous.” If requested, we will publish photographs with donations of $500 or more. A photograph can be provided, or we will take one.
