Herman Franklin Biggs, 96, of Lumberton, died May 9, 2004, at Wesley Pines Retirement Center.
The funeral was held today at First Baptist Church, the Revs. Dr. R. Kevin Head and Joe K. Bounds officiating. Interment was at the Meadowbrook Cemetery under the direction of Biggs Funeral Home.
Biggs was born in Robeson County on May 3, 1908, a son of the late John Thomas and Mollie Beverly Biggs. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seventh and Walnut streets, where he was active in the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the St. Alban's Masonic Lodge No. 114, a Scottish and York Rites of Freemasonry, and the Robeson County Shrine Club. He owned and operated Biggs Mutual Insurance Agency and Biggs Coin Operated Laundry, retiring inJanuary 1982. He attended Wake Forest College in Wake Forest.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Neil Biggs; and three brothers, Thomas Beverly “Bevo” Biggs, John Irvin Biggs and Carlyle B. Biggs.
Surviving are two sons, Herman Franklin Biggs Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Blountville, Tenn. and David A. Biggs and his wife, Kathy, of Lumberton; two sisters, Elizabeth “Lib” Biggs Owens and Louise “LuLu” Biggs Gray; four grandchildren, David A. Biggs Jr., John Thomas Biggs, Katherine “Kate” Biggs and Bonnie Tankersley; and a sister-in-law, Anne Moss Biggs of Lumberton.
