Elithe James Port Ellis (Chicky), 61, died June 18, 2007, at Duke University Medical Center.
A memorial celebration of her joyous life will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Wilson Memorial Service in Wilson. Interment will follow at Queen Anne Cemetery, Fountain.
The eldest daughter of Etta Louise and William Lockhart Port, she was born and raised in Bethesda, Md. She met the love of her life, Danny “Butch” Ellis of Wilson, while attending Atlantic Christian College in Wilson.
The family said: “She was a caring mother and wife. Chicky treasured every moment life gave her, and always thought of others before herself.”
Ellis was preceded in death by a brother, William.
Surviving are her devoted husband of nearly 40 years, Butch Ellis; a daughter, Wendy Ellis Thaggard and her husband Bill, both of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; a son Danny Ellis Jr. and his wife Julie, both of Elizabethtown; four precious grandchildren, Tucker, Landon, Samuel and Annabeth; a brother Patrick; three sisters, Mary, Etta and Patty; brothers-in-law, Horace and Cecil; and dearest nieces, nephews, and friends in Holden Beach and Lumberton.
