Mary Helen Pittman Cooper, 80, of 117 Henley St., Red Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Red Springs. The Rev. Tim McKoy officiated. Burial followed in the Community Rest Cemetery in Red Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Cooper; her mother, Phodia Pittman; three sisters, Catherine Pittman, Sarah Black and Avia Pittman; and a brother, Charlie Pittman.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Hammonds and her husband, Lee D. Hammonds Sr. of Lumberton and Janice McNeill of Red Springs; two sisters, Eula Pittman and Gloria P. Johnson, both of Red Springs; two brothers, Alton Pittman and Louis Pittman Sr., both of Red Springs; four grandchildren, LeKisha Hammonds of Lumberton, Lenita Hammonds of Southern Pines, Lee D. Hammonds Jr. and Dwikeila McNeill, both of Red Springs; four sisters-in-law, Jean Pittman (Charlie) of Baltimore, Md., Willamenia McPhatter (June) of Durham, Anne S. Pittman (Alton), and Sarah M. Pittman (Louis), both of Red Springs; nieces; nephews; cousins and other relatives; three adopted grandchildren, Summer Rogers and Eric Brown and Kainan McBryde, all of Red Springs; four adopted sisters, Mary T. Black and Rebecca Black, both of Red Springs; DeLois McLaughlin (special friend); and Osaka B. Wade, both of Fayetteville.
