Pirates soccer players honored

LUMBERTON Kenny Simmons already was pleased with how his Lumberton girls’ soccer team concluded. The Pirates accomplished a lot in capturing the Two Rivers 4-A Conference tournament title for the first time in the league’s final year.
Having three players named All-Region and seven All-Conference is just icing on the cake.
Sophomore Damilia Brooks and seniors Morgan Haskins and Katye Jobe were named to the All- Region 6 team by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.
Those same three also were first-team All-Two Rivers choices.
“Very deserving honor for all three, they all had tremendous years for us,” Simmons said. “They were three key players for us. And it’s nice to have some individual players honored. But it reflects on the whole team and the season we had. They would be the first to tell you that they couldn’t have done it without their teammates.”
Junior midfielder Sabre Jessup and sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Hansen were second-team all-conference selections, while junior Laurne Caulder and sophomore Callie Davis received honorable mention.
Purnell Swett senior Erica Collins also received honorable mention.
