Members from the Robeson County chapter of the North Carolina Association of Educators delivered 24,507 pennies — more than one for every student in the Public Schools of Robeson County — to the Capitol building in Raleigh on June 15 to show their support for the continuation of a 1-cent sales tax that is set to expire July 1. They say keeping the tax would have avoided deep cuts in education. They joined thousands of other teachers, students and Reps. Charles Graham and Garland Pierce, both of Robeson County.
