RALEIGH — Jamee Hunt of Rowland, the reigning Miss UNCP, has captured a prize already in the events leading up to tonight’s crowning of the new Miss North Carolina.
At the Tuesday night preliminary contests, Hunt, a vocalist, was named the Miss Talent Award winner.
A health promotions major at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Hunt was crowned Miss UNCP in January. In addition to a $1,000 scholarship, Hunt was awarded the Jessica Reed and Family Community Service Award and a $100 scholarship.
She also earned the chance to compete in the 2008 Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant.
After her win in January, Hunt said she planned to work hard on her platform “ACTIONS — A Commitment to Improving Our Nation’s Students,” a dropout prevention program.
The 71st pageant, held at Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, began on June 14 and ends tonight with the crowning of the Miss North Carolina.
