Two busted for cocaine in Community Road area

On Saturday, August 30, 2008 at about 11:30 PM, Robeson County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were working traffic in the East Great Marsh Church Road and Community Road area of St. Pauls. Deputies were there because citizens in the community had complained of suspected illegal activity at a location on Community Road.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Officer have responded to these concerns, and on Saturday night Deputies did a traffic check points near Community Road.
While conducting the traffic checkpoint, a 2005 White Chevrolet Monte Carlo operated by Calvin Bruce Beard, age 29, 511 Quality Road, Fayetteville, hastily pulled into a driveway near the checkpoint. Deputies suspected the vehicle was attempting to elude the check point.
A Deputy drove his marked patrol vehicle to the location where Beard had stopped, Beard remained in the vehicle, but two subjects jumped from his vehicle. A black male, later identified as James Calvin McEachern Jr., age 22, 469 Saddleridge Road, Fayetteville, ran to a residence on Great Marsh Church Road and the other unknown subject ran into the woods nearby. Beard and McEachern were detained while other Deputies searched for the passenger.
Deputies searched Beard’s vehicle and located a clear plastic bag containing approximately 5 grams of cocaine.
Beard and McEachern were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Beard and McEachern were each jailed under a $25,000.00 secured bond.
