Bullard named state FFA winner
PEMBROKE - Amber Bullard, a 2005 graduate of Purnell Swett High, was named the state FFA Agricultural Services' Entrepren-eurship/-Placement winner.
Bullard, a member of FFA at Swett, received $100. She will advance to the national competition and a chance to win $500.

Challenge Camp dates scheduled
WESTFIELD - A 4-H Challenge Camp for rising sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade students will be held July 17-22 and July 31-Aug. 5 at Sertoma 4-H Camp in Westfield.
The deadline to sign up is July 8. The cost is $50. Students must be ages 10 to 14. Campers will enjoy daily activities, such as horseback riding, hiking, arts and crafts, swimming, nature studies, night hiking, and campouts. This camp is for low-income, high-achieving youth. Full scholarships are provided for qualified youth.

Pesticide training set for July 14
LUMBERTON - Pesti-cide recertification training will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. July 14 at the O. P. Owens Auditorium.
These meetings will provide two hours credit for category V and two hours credit for category X for private pesticide applicators who need credits for either one or both of these categories. Two hours credit for commercial categories D, H, L, and N will also be provided.
The class for category V will be from 5 to 7 p.m. The class for category X will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Commercial pesticide credits will be available in the following categories: Two hours for D — dealers, H — right-of-way, L — ornamental and turf, and N — demonstration and research. These credits will only be offered during the 7 to 9 p.m. portion of the meeting.
It is no longer necessary for applicators to write their Social Security number on the roster.
