Lady Pirates cruise past Colts

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Lumberton girls tennis team was on top of its game Tuesday, registering a 9-0 sweep over Two Rivers Conference foe Cape Fear.
The Lady Pirates (11-1) dominated singles play and were led by Kate Biggs and Rhonda Cooper. Biggs and Cooper -- Lumberton's No. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively -- cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins over their opponents. Also grabbing victories for the Lady Pirates were Beth Brady, Whitney Parker, Erica Cooper and Monica Vyas.
In doubles action the tandems of Rhonda Cooper/Parker and Erica Cooper/Vyas were victorious for Lumberton.
Next up for the Lady Pirates is a home conference match with E.E. Smith on Thursday at 5 p.m.
n At Fairmont, the Lady Golden Tornadoes eked out a 5-4 win against Gray's Creek in a Tri-Six Conference showdown.
No. 1 singles player Amy Ammons set the tone for Fairmont with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Casy Lloyd. Meredith Hunt, Beth Vause and Kayla Lewis also notched wins for the Lady Tornadoes.

At Fairmont, the Lady Golden Tornadoes rolled past Red Springs 25-8, 25-12, 25-18 in a Tri-Six clash.
Fairmont (9-4, 5-3 TSC) was paced by Gini Grimsley, who tallied 17 kills and six service points. Teammate Savannah Jones chipped in 16 service points, while Shante McNair added 10 assists.
