George Hoover Jones, 79, of 4587 Mt. Tabor Road, Red Springs, died Jan. 5, 2011, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Revels Funeral Home Chapel in Lumberton, the Revs. Kenneth Jones, Glenn E. Jones and Mitchell Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxendine Cemetery on Rennert Road, Lumberton.
He was born in Robeson County on Aug. 20, 1931. He was the son of the late George H. and Martha Butler Jones.
Jones was preceded in death by three sisters, Shirley Griffin, Evelyn Marie Locklear, and Mary Pat Lamb; and three brothers, Melvin Bobby Jones, Henry L. Jones, and Earl D. Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Betty Jones of the home; three sons, James Pittman Jones and the Rev. Kenneth Jones, both of Lumberton, and the Rev. Glenn E. Jones of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three daughters, Tonya Dunn and Ronya Jones, both of Union, S.C., and Clarissa Tyler of Parkton; three brothers, L. J. Jones of Lumberton, Talmadge Jones and Stevie Jones, both of Pembroke; two sisters, Lizadie Hunt of Lumberton and Janice M. Locklear of Pembroke; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Senah, James, Kristin, Kenny, Hunter, and Daekwon; five great-grandchildren, Crystal, Ashlyn, Kaylee, Layni and Donnie; several nieces; several nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Revels Funeral Home in Lumberton and other times at the home of Lizadie Hunt, 2055 Kenric Road, Lumberton.
