LAURINBURG Dr. Jadene Lowry, family medicine physician, comes from a family of physicians. She follows in the footsteps of her mother, aunt, and uncle, all of whom practice medicine close to their family roots in Lumberton.
Lowry joined Scotland Health Care Systems medical staff this summer, providing family care at Scotland Health Care Center in Bennettsville, S.C. She and Dr. David Howell offer full-time medical care to the resident of Marlboro County, S.C., and the surrounding areas.
I look forward to meeting the people of Marlboro County and getting to know our patients, Lowry said. Im quite excited to be putting down roots here again.
A Pembroke native, Lowry earned a bachelor of science in Biology/Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, followed by a medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. She completed a family medicine residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. This past December, she was one of 13 recipients to receive the Outstanding Resident of the Year from the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians.
As a child, Lowry was inspired by her mother, family medicine physician, Tulula Lowry.
She was a non-traditional medical student in that she didnt enter medical school until she was in her 30s, Lowry said. I was in the second grade at the time with an older brother and sister. While it was hard for her, it was quite visible to all who knew her that she loved what she was doing, and still does. So when I decided to become a physician, she was very supportive of me.
Asked why she specialized in family medicine, Lowry said: As family physicians we provide continuity of care to learn about those aspects of their life that makes each one a person, not just a patient. Plus, I get to provide care to patients of all ages, from babies to senior citizens. I see my patients as a whole what makes up their life affects their health.
Scotland Health Care Center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. New patients are welcome. Most insurance plans are accepted. To schedule an appointment with Lowry or Howell, call (843) 454-0245.
